Redistricting South Carolina
It is imperative that South Carolina Democrats address our districting problem immediately. As currently constructed gerrymandering has muffled the voices of voters and weakened the democratic process. Because lawmakers control the process of drawing districts, there is incentive, of course, for the districts to be drawn in the favor of Republicans and incumbents. Current lawmakers can essentially cherry-pick their voters which snatches the power from our hands to theirs. Our current process allows districts to be drawn in a way that over represent Democrats in small areas and in turn severely under represent Democrats statewide. South Carolina’s current system of drawing districts weakens the influence of a Democrat agenda. Also, gerrymandering has a devastating impact on would be voters who already doubt the effectiveness of their vote. Many legislative races were decided at primaries and the general election was merely a formality. Why would we let his continue? Talk to you...
